The Financial Services team provides accounting services and financial information to support Library managers in maintaining effective financial control over operations.
The Accounting Specialist position performs a range of professional accounting functions and tasks within the established guidelines of the Library according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, procedures and methods.
This role is supervised by a higher level Accounting Operation Supervisor and does not have direct reports.
Assignments are performed under moderate supervision within established guidelines, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, standards and methods.
Direction will be provided on special projects or where guidelines and rules are unclear.
Knowledge of accounting practices, methods, laws, rules, ordinances, and regulations is required to determine the most appropriate accounting methods and procedures to apply and to ensure appropriate compliance.
Personal contacts are with department employees, other departments, agencies or the public to provide information, coordinate work activities and resolve problems.

Essential Duties: Accounts Payable and Expenditure PaymentMonitor and control accounting activities in the recording of Accounts Payable—includes the management of a designated library department portfolio.
Process all payment expenditures incurred by the Library in an accurate and timely manner.
Field inquiries from vendor network and library department portfolio regarding payment and billing transactions in a courteous and timely manner.
Research and resolve payment discrepancies and disputes.
Monitor and control accounting activities in the recording of financial transactions.
Other DutiesReview and input Requisition information to the financial system, and partner with the Library Senior Buyer to dispatch Purchase Orders.
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual closing responsibilities including performing account analysis, and review of financial data.
Assist in special projects including research and analysis of financial information and reporting for special information requests from departments.
