Salary Range expected at hire: $64,480 - $64,480 + Washington State Employee Benefits

The Washington State Bar Association operates under the delegated authority of the Washington Supreme Court and exercises a governmental function authorized by the Washington Supreme Court to license and regulate the state’s nearly 40,000 legal professionals, including lawyers, limited practice officers, and limited license legal technicians.
The WSBA both regulates legal professionals under the authority of the Court and serves its members as a professional association — all without public funding.
The WSBA administers the bar admission process, including the bar exam; provides record-keeping and licensing functions; administers the lawyer discipline system.

Purpose and Position Summary: A Random Examination Auditor in the Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) primarily performs random examinations of legal professionals’ trust accounts in connection with the random examination program under Rule 15.
1 of the Washington Supreme Court’s Rules for Enforcement of Lawyer Conduct (ELC).
This position also educates WSBA members and the public regarding trust account rules by responding to inquiries, teaching CLE seminars, and participating in other proactive prevention programs.
Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities: Performs random examinations of the handling of client funds and trust accounts.
Performs random examinations of trust accounts and prepares random-examination reports detailing specific findings in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
Educates the legal professional who is subject to the examination and assists that person in making corrections of violations noted.
May recommend to disciplinary counsel that ODC seek authorization to perform a re-examination or open a disciplinary investigation based on a random examination and prepares reports in support of such requests for authorization.
Educates legal professionals by taking phone calls and emails, answering questions, and giving trust account presentations and classes.
As assigned and consistent with the interpretive positions developed by the Audit Manager and Senior Auditor, develops and presents educational programs and materials related to trust accounts and responds to member inquiries.
Performs other duties as assigned Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned, including performing account reconstructions and inventorying trust account records in support of disciplinary audits Provides back up to other members of the Audit team as needed.
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or related field, or equivalent experience Education Preferred: Certified Public Accountant License and/or Certified Fraud Examiner Certification Experience Required: Minimum of 3 years of experience with financial accounting and/or bookkeeping.
Experience reconciling bank accounts and other accounts.
Must be able to perform bank reconciliations manually.
QuickBooks (or other small business accounting software) experience, including setting up company files, entering transactions, and reconciling.
Experience creating spreadsheets and performing financial analysis in Microsoft Excel.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience Preferred: Experience and knowledge in accounting and/or bookkeeping in the legal profession, including lawyers’ trust accounts.
Forensic auditing experience and other advanced investigative skills.
Knowledge of, and experience with, government regulations and compliance auditing.
Public accounting, internal auditing and experience preparing workpapers and audit reports.
Experience with public speaking.
Working Conditions: This position, while primarily remote, must be flexible to work in office or travel within WA state as deemed necessary, or as required.
Hybrid options are also available.
For remote work, must have an adequate home/work environment and internet access, for performing work of a highly sensitive and confidential nature.
Employment with the Washington State Bar Association mandates that WSBA Staff must reside within the State of Washington at the time of hire, and during active employment status.
Remote work must be performed in Washington State.
