Job Summary
The Senior Accountant position performs end to end financial accounting and reporting for a portfolio of approximately 10-15 residential apartment properties.
This position will also help support accounting efforts for new construction projects during their multi-year development lifecycle.
This position must maintain a high level of collaboration in working with the team’s accounting managers and other accountants whose work supports all properties.
This position reports to the Accounting Manager of Portfolio Operations.
This position can be in person, hybrid, or remote, but must be able to work well with remote team members.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure CRH accounting policies, standard procedures, and internal controls are upheld
Prepare and review monthly operating statements for portfolio of assigned buildings, follow up on aging balances and provide accounting support for site managers and property managers
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for bank accounts in assigned portfolio, and collaborate with portfolio managers to clear reconciling items
Record monthly transactions for assigned portfolio, including reserve account interest and laundry deposits
Manage recurring entries, including monthly insurance expense, and update periodically as needed
Prepare assigned support schedules for annual audits, including building audits and the annual consolidated financial statement audit
Prepare financial portion of annual City reports for multiple properties
Assist with construction project accounting and tracking of funding sources and uses
Other duties and projects as assigned
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or equivalent combination of accounting education and work experience
At least 2 years relevant work experience (or 4 years if no accounting degree), including accounting for residential apartment buildings
Experience with a complex chart of accounts and working in an organization with multiple entities
Strong oral and written communication skills in English
Intermediate/Strong skills with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Teams, Outlook)
Experience with remote meetings and collaboration, using tools such as MS Teams and Zoom
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work independently
Ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse personalities, cultures, and communication styles
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in affordable housing and real estate development accounting
Experience with Abila (MIP) fund accounting and Concur software
Experience participating in external financial statement audits
Experience working on a team of at least 5 accountants
