Job Summary Community Roots Housing is looking for a Staff Accountant for our Finance department.
The Staff Accountant is responsible for a variety of monthly general accounting tasks, reconciliations, and end to end financial accounting and reporting for a portfolio of approximately 10-15 residential apartment properties fully owned by CRH.
This position will also assist with accounting efforts for new construction projects during their multi-year development lifecycle.
The Staff Accountant must maintain a high level of collaboration in working with the team’s managers and other accountants whose work supports all properties.
This position reports to the Accounting Manager for Portfolio Operations.
This position can be in person, hybrid, or remote, but must be able to work well with remote team members.
Duties and Responsibilities Follow CRH accounting policies, standard procedures, and internal controls Responsible for multiple bank account reconciliations, including the main operating checking account, reserves, and security deposit accounts Assist in accounting for cash receipts, disbursements, and interfund cash transfers Prepare weekly cash summary report Maintain CRH fixed asset module, including asset additions, disposals, and monthly depreciation processing Property accountant duties for portfolio of buildings fully owned by CRH: Provide accounting support for property operations staff for assigned buildings, including assistance with capital replacement reserve requests Importing and reconciling tenant ledger data from RealPage property management software to the accounting system and reports Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for bank accounts in assigned portfolio, and collaborate with portfolio managers to clear reconciling items Prepare or review recurring monthly or quarterly recurring entries for portfolio, and update periodically as needed Prepare financial portion of annual City reports for assigned buildings Prepare support schedules for annual audits and assist with selections and follow-up requests, including assigned portfolio and general CRH accounting schedules Assist with construction project accounting and tracking of funding sources and uses Backup coverage for tasks as assigned, including recurring training and review of process changes Other duties and projects as assigned Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or equivalent combination of accounting education and work experience At least 1 year relevant work experience (or 3 years if no accounting degree) Experience with a complex chart of accounts Strong oral and written communication skills in English Intermediate/Strong skills with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Teams, Outlook) Experience with remote meetings and collaboration, using tools such as MS Teams and Zoom Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work independently Ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse personalities, cultures, and communication styles Preferred Qualifications: Experience in affordable housing or real estate development accounting Experience with Abila (MIP) fund accounting software Experience with RealPage or other property management software Experience with SAP Concur, Conservice, and other billing software Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
