This job contributes to REI’s success by reviewing, analyzing, and posting corporate financial data to the general ledger in an accurate and timely manner.
General responsibilities include: Performing complex month-end closing activities and account reconciliations, preparing monthly standard journal entries, driving cross divisional collaboration to research general accounting questions, maintaining balance sheet schedules, analyzing general ledger account balances to determine accuracy and completeness of entries, training and developing staff accountants, researching and posting account corrections in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal account definitions, and owning and driving various finance projects.
This position must have an excellent understanding of the technical and financial implications of the associated processes and can identify and resolve problems independently.
Organization, attention to detail, and communication are critical to the success of this role.
The ideal candidate will initiate, develop, and implement process improvements as well as model and act in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission.
Planning & Navigating Requirements (the plans the job is responsible for creating and executing, and how the job ensures they are implemented) • Oversees the balancing and posting of corporate financial data from multiple systems into the General Ledger in an accurate and timely manner.
• Solid understanding of internal controls related to accounting and reporting.
Proactive in ensuring adequate internal controls within accounting and working with other functions to ensure adequate controls exist for processes that impact accounting.
• Exhibits excellent time management skills and effectively prioritizes competing responsibilities with minimal oversight from managers, ensures deliverables are completed timely • Proactively identifies control weaknesses and inefficient processes; initiates, develops, and implements process improvements.
• Analyzes and reconciles more complex Balance Sheet accounts, identifying and resolving discrepant items.
• Accountable for reconciling and posting complex accounting transactions.
• Proficient in analyzing large data sets.
• Researches questions about financial information, and posts correcting entries in accordance with GAAP and internal account definitions.
• As needed, participates in building and testing business requirements for system implementations and enhancements • Subject matter expert for assigned areas of ownership • Contact and resource for auditors; provides audit schedules, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
• Trains, coaches, and provides guidance to Staff Accountants relating to more complex accounting processes and reconciliations.
• Analyzes financial information to provide financial insight and ensure financial information is materially accurate • Performs and reviews month-end closing activities.
• Works cross-divisionally to research questions about financial information and posts correcting entries in accordance with GAAP and internal account definitions.
• Identifies issues and brings inconsistencies and problems to the attention of management.
Takes ownership and drives development and implementation of solutions.
• Participates in and drives ad hoc projects and assignments as needed.
Responsibilities: Required Skills & Experience • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field • 4+ years accounting or bookkeeping experience • Experience analyzing informational data in an ERP system • Advanced Excel and analytical skills required • Demonstrates firm understanding of how to apply GAAP to general ledger accounting • Great team player with solid interpersonal skills • Demonstrates eagerness to learn new tasks and is flexible in prioritizing daily assignments • Ability to consolidate information from various sources including feedback from others to reach sound decisions • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing • Exceptional attention to detail • Executes effectively by using resources efficiently, meeting deadlines, and keeping others informed of work plans and progress toward goals • Ability to work independently and balance multiple projects and processes simultaneously • Flexible in one's viewpoints and positions to support the direction taken by others at REI • Ability to distill data to be able to form an understanding of why something is occurring within the business and ability to concisely project that understanding to others • Assumes positive intent and starts from a place of respect when interacting with colleagues • Analytical mindset with drive for problem solving • Acts upon opportunities and involves and influences others in the accomplishment of worthwhile organizational goals • Challenges the status quo, champions change and influences others to change Preferred Qualifications • CPA license • SAP experience • Experience in Inventory Accounting • Tableau, SQL • Public Accounting experience Closing: At REI, we believe the outdoors is for all.

Base Pay Range: USD $72,900.
