The Payroll Manager is responsible for leading a team in the efficient management and processing of multi-state payroll for REI’s workforce in the United States using the Ultimate Kronos Group (UKG) platform.
The Payroll Manager initiates policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of the payroll operations and works closely with staff and other business partners to respond to all payroll needs.
Reviews and monitors all Payroll related processes and procedures and responds to payroll related questions and requests in a large-scale corporate environment.
Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission.
Leading the Way Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods, and practices to promote REI key messages.
Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results.
Continuously evaluates and improves payroll processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Ensures employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to employees in order to achieve department, company and customer results.
Establishes and maintains visibility within the department.
Monitors operational statistics, reports trends, variances, and issues, and takes appropriate action.
Your Planning & Navigating Requirements Plans and manages payroll and payroll tax workload.
Hires, trains, and develops Payroll staff.
Oversees and works closely with weekly and bi-weekly payroll functions and process to ensure accuracy in the reporting, generation, and timely distribution of employee paychecks, including all wage adjustments and bonuses.
Ensures adherence to REI’s payroll policies and procedures and keeps these updated.
Collaborating with labor relations team to ensure payroll practices align with collective bargaining agreements and union rules.
Ensures all periodic federal and state Payroll tax deposits, tax reporting, W-2’s, etc.
are processed timely and accurately.
Ensures compliance with all federal and state regulatory reporting requirements.
Works closely with HR and IT personnel on developing processes and system requirements that ensure accuracy of payroll processing and internal controls for maintenance of Payroll.
Assists in the completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual Payroll G/L accounts reconciliations.
Coordinates and implements the payroll and tax data setup for new locations.
Manages the set-up and ensures proper processing of 3rd party deductions.
Manages file uploads and reconciliations, balancing and troubleshooting issues.
Maintaining detailed records of payroll transactions, union-related documentation, and employee payroll data.
Research new payroll regulations and takes necessary steps to implement changes across organization.
Serves as liaison with other key departments and locations for resolution of payroll problems.
Responsibilities: 5+ Years of overall payroll experience with in-house payroll processing in a high volume, multi-state environment 2+ years of previous payroll management or supervisory experience in a mid to large corporate environment Complete understanding and practical application of payroll processing, payroll systems, payroll accounting and payroll tax Strong knowledge of time and attendance systems Proficient in federal, state, and local employment statutory requirements related to pay, wage and hour, health and welfare, and multi-state payroll tax Builds capacity of individuals and teams through effective employee development, involvement, communication, and supervision efforts.
