The General Ledger Accountant, full-time and represented by Prof-Tech, reports to the Director of Accounting Services.
This position is responsible for analyzing the General Ledger, to support accurate accounting for the college.
This position supports activities of the Director of Accounting Services, and the Budget, Accounting, and Financial Services Director.
This position works with Student Financials staff, to ensure accounting generated in the Campus Solutions (student) pillar is correctly reported in the General Ledger.
The General Ledger Accountant is represented by The Renton Professional Technical Association (Prof-Tech).
The pay range for this role is $5,666–$7,109 monthly and salary placement is based on applicable work experience.
New hires may not be placed above Step 10 ($6,809.
) Prof-Tech employees receive a yearly degree stipend if they have an Associate’s degree $150, Bachelor’s $250, or a Master’s $350.

Research and correct errors.
Review trial balance.
Enter and approve manual journal entries as needed.
Review student financials activity in the general ledger.
Investigate and correct errors.
Manage item type general ledger accounts, to ensure accuracy.
Request additions and changes to item types.
Coordinate with student financials staff, to reconcile internal cash.
Coordinate with grant staff, to ensure compliance with spending guidelines.
Work with Grant Accountant on GL and budgetary entries.
Maintain fixed asset records.
Record monthly additions, disposals, and depreciation.
Prepare monthly bank account reconciliation.
Prepare and/or analyze various reports for management decision making.
Review policies, processes, and procedures for finance.
Make recommendations for improvement in compliance with GAAP and GASB standards.
Prepare and file Sales/Use tax returns with the Department of Revenue.
Participate in the completion of the college’s monthly, annual, and biennial closing processes.
Prepare year-end AR/AP/Travel accruals and monitor for accuracy.
Review close/open transactions at fiscal year-end.
Review SMART reconciliation monthly and ensure corrected entries are posted timely.
Assist with financial statement review of GL accounts.
Attend the state budgeting, accounting, and reporting committee meetings.
Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Associate degree in accounting, business, finance, or closely related field.
Two (2) years of full-time experience as an accountant.
Experience in the Washington State Community and Technical College system preferred.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
Demonstrated ability to reconcile accounts.
Demonstrated knowledge of internal controls and experience performing audits.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, specifically experience creating & editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations.
Previous success learning new computer software programs/platforms required.
Previous PeopleSoft experience preferred.
Demonstrates attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility.
Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 months of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment required.
Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.

This is mostly an in-person/on-campus position; remote work may occur as business permits.
