Pre & Post Award Financial Analyst III – Finance The mission of the Allen Institute is to unlock the complexities of bioscience and advance our knowledge to improve human health.

The mission of the Allen Institute administration team is to provide support and structure to the scientific divisions.
Coinciding with the team science approach, administration helps facilitate team learning and the overall mission of the institute.
The Allen Institute Research Funding team is looking to add a strong customer-focused Pre & Post Award Financial Analyst.
This individual will be tasked with managing pre- and post-award fiscal compliance.
This position will report to the Director of Finance and will have the primary responsibility of performing budgeting, financial analysis, and other pre- and post-award functions while providing insight and guidance to Investigators and Project Managers for internally and externally funded projects.
This position will help to support a rapidly growing externally funded portfolio at the Allen Institute.
In partnership with the Office of Sponsored Research, this individual will provide day-to-day fiscal operations support and be a subject matter expert for grant compliance.
In all activities, this analyst will work to increase fiscal quality, compliance and productivity and drive strong business results for the broader Allen Institute.

Essential Functions Manages a portfolio of projects from various funders for multiple Investigators; provides sound and consistent insight and recommendations toward stewardship of funds Demonstrates and applies working knowledge of compliance with Federal and non-federal sponsored regulations and be able to communicate the impact of those requirements to the scientific teams Collaborates with internal stakeholders and investigators to develop and implement strategies to improve project operations, ensuring award compliance Develops budgets for grant applications while demonstrating high attention to detail and excellent communication with the Office of Sponsored Research and scientific teams Strategically analyzes complex budgetary issues and provides strong financial insight and recommendations focused on problem resolution Conducts post-award financial analyses and prepares meaningful and intuitive financial reports highlighting unobligated balance, project effort, and financial performance for projects Performs ad-hoc financial analyses in response to requests and provides support to various internal and external organizations Monitors grant expenditures for reasonableness and compliance with federal sponsor requirements and Institute policies and procedures; recommending policy and procedure changes as needed and partner with internal stakeholders to implement changes Liaise with subcontract institutions and other sponsored program offices to resolve fiscal issues In partnership with the Office of Sponsored Research, this position will conduct virtual and in-person grant trainings for investigators and administrators at the Institute; this includes developing training materials, presenting during sessions, and keeping materials and knowledge up to date as there are regulatory changes Proactive problem solver with the ability to implement improvements/efficiencies in reporting and help create capacity within the team Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Public Administration, or other related fields or equivalent combination of degree and experience 3 years equivalent experience with Federally funded grants; demonstrated work experience with pre- and post-award grant management Thorough knowledge of basic accounting principles and federal cost compliance requirements Strong financial and analytical skills and experience with Microsoft Excel Experience using enterprise resource management and/or grants management applications Preferred Education and Experience 5 -7 years of experience in research administration, financial analysis, general accounting, or other relevant experience Relevant certification (e.
g.
CMA, CPA, CRA) Experience with non-federal sponsors such as private foundations Familiarity with federal sponsor systems (e.
g.
eRA Commons, ASSIST, grants.
gov, Fastlane).
Customer Service experience Oracle Cloud or other Oracle ERP experience Experience building tools/reports in Microsoft Power BI, Power Query and/or other analytical tools Additional Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Strong organization and communication skills Ability to prioritize and self-direct, analyze situations, and identify situations where it is appropriate to make decisions Working knowledge of federal regulations related to grants and projects Knowledge of principles and practices of nonprofit accounting Skilled in researching, analyzing, and evaluating complex financial data Ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing Ability to extract and manipulate data to be used in defining and resolving questions Detail-oriented with an ability and desire to understand and communicate the whys Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide a high level of customer service and establish and maintain effective interdepartmental communications and relationships Proficient in various computer applications including comprehensive databases and advanced spreadsheets Ability to maintain confidentiality and high ethical standards in all aspects of work Works well in a team environment with multiple deadlines Physical Demands Fine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipment Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This role is currently able to work in a hybrid work environment.
We are a Washington State employer, and any remote work must be performed in Washington State.
Annualized Salary Range $88,450 - $129,750 * * Final salary depends on the required education for the role, experience, level of skills relevant to the role, and work location, where applicable.
