Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) has a exciting TEMPORARY Accountant opportunity to work with our Accounts Receivable team.
The Accountant will work closely with the Accounting Technician III in this area.
This position reports to the A/R Manager.
This TEMPORARY opportunity is non-benefitted and is expected to last up to 10 months in duration.

Job Responsibilities Accountant Job Duties/Responsibilities include: Accounting Reconciliation and Reviews Create journal entries Review and create invoices Transaction reviews and corrections Transfer Station Billing Accountant Duties/Responsibilities Include: Review and reconcile assigned accounts in the general ledger Communicate with customers by phone and email to answer questions and resolve billing issues Assist transfer station staff with scale house transactions Coordinate with Account Tech III to manage payment posting Review and approve Account Tech III work including journal entries and account adjustments Work collaboratively with staff from other Finance sections to provide information and improve processes Train and provide back-up support for accounting technician Assist in the development and modification of accounting control policies, procedures and practices Assist in special projects such as research and analysis of financial information Please note this job advertisement is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.

Qualifications Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting OR two (2) years of accounting experience.
A combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class, will be considered.
The ideal candidate should possess some or all of the following: One (1) or more years of accounting experience with a large, complex financial system, preferably in an accounts receivable setting.
Strong spreadsheet and software skills, particularly with Excel, Access, and PeopleSoft applications Demonstrated coordination, research, and analytical skills Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment under limited supervision Excellent customer service and communication skills Ability to communicate and work effectively within a multicultural workforce serving a diverse customer base Additional Information How to Apply: In addition to fully completing the online application, we encourage candidates to attach a resume and cover letter.

Employees will be required to come into the office twice a week.
Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.
