ActivSpace is seeking a detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Controller.
This position is responsible for managing all aspects of accounting functions for an established multi-state (Washington, Oregon, California) commercial real estate company which specializes in leasing to artists, hobbyists and small businesses with all accounting performed centrally in Seattle.
Responsibilities:
* Manage overall accounting activities of the company
* Responsible for the timely closing of general ledgers each month and completion of all necessary account reconciliations
* Responsible for generation of monthly management reports and internal financials
* Supervise various tax reporting – city and state taxes, property taxes, interaction with public accounting firm for state and federal income tax reporting
* Handle miscellaneous third-party reporting – bank borrowing base, government census reporting, etc.
* Maintain spreadsheet-based fixed asset records and reconciliation to the general ledger.
* Lead the development, administration, and update of written accounting policies and ongoing maintenance of an effective internal control systems
* Handle internal and external inquiries for routine accounting information
* Administration of annual bank audit and financial statement review
* Selected cash management duties (some daily banking, recurring transfers, etc.
)
* Development and maintenance of financial budgets
* Cost control and administration of various service contracts
* Maintenance of positive vendor and customer relationships
* Monitoring of vendor chargebacks and rebates
* Other projects as directed by supervisor

Qualifications listed below are subject to but not exclusive of other relevant experiences:
* Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent relevant experience required.
CPA.
* At least 5 years of experience in supervising accounting operations, experience in the real estate or retailing industry is desirable.
* Proven track record of customer service orientation and service delivery excellence
* PC/computer skills – must be comfortable working extensively with computer applications to maximize productivity; extensive experience with Microsoft Excel is a must; experience with Timberline software is strongly preferred; ability to quickly learn and master the company’s distribution and financial systems; solid familiarity with internet research, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Word; ability to quickly process and enter data
* Comfortable working with large volumes of financial data and related documentation; attention to detail is critical
* Ability to interact with a wide variety of people and companies, from large to small vendors and customers
* Good eye toward improving existing policies and procedures
* High standards of professionalism, ethics, dependability, and confidentiality
* Self-starter; hands-on, results-oriented approach; good organization skills
* Excellent communications skills; patient and tactful attitude
This position reports to the President.
