0 FTE OBJECTIVE SUMMARY: A General Ledger Accountant is responsible for maintaining a company's financial records and ensuring the accuracy of its general ledger.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Maintain and update the general ledger by recording financial transactions, including income, expenses, and adjustments.
Prepare monthly reconciliations of subsidiary ledgers to general ledger control accounts.
Reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and resolve any discrepancies.
This includes bank reconciliations, receivables, fixed assets, prepaids, and liabilities.
Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all entries are accurately recorded and financial statements are prepared in a timely manner.
Prepare various monthly journal entries to record cash deposits, receivables, prepaids, fixed asset transactions, payroll liabilities, and other liability accruals.
Track construction in process (CIP) transactions and review for appropriate recording based on the district’s capitalization policy.
Perform monthly depreciation analysis and capitalization reporting.
Prepare financial reports and statements summarizing the company's financial position, such as income statements, cash flow, and balance sheets.
Gathering information requests by auditors or department managers.
Work closely with CPA firms on audits and cost reports.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, policies, and regulations.
Stay updated on changes in accounting principles.
Analyze financial data and trends, providing insights to management for decision-making and providing recommendations.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to the development and implementation of more efficient accounting procedures.
Utilize accounting software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to perform daily tasks efficiently.
Reviewing financial data and reporting for accuracy.
Collaborating with other departments to ensure accurate records while also providing accounting support, education, and training opportunities.
Preparing tax report filings or gathering tax documents.
Ensuring invoices are received, processed, and paid in accordance with contractual agreements with vendors to meet financial requirements of the district.
Ensuring compliance with all IRS regulations including 1099 income reporting requirements and taxing laws.
Maintains appropriate electronic records and documentation in order to meet audit requirements.
REQUIRED EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: CPA and/or Advance coursework or degree.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Minimum three years of accounting experience to include reconciling general ledger accounts and preparing/posting journal entries.
Intermediate level Excel skills.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in the healthcare industry and/or public accounting experience.
SKILLS: Strong analytical skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Effective problem-solving skills to identify and correct financial discrepancies.
Technical accounting skills.
Written and verbal communication skills to share accounting information when needed.
Technical skills and experience using accounting software.
Understanding of accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
Ability to work on a team and independently.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and proven interpersonal skills.
Ability to use spreadsheet and other software applications.
Through knowledge of healthcare finance industry processes and standards related to accounting, finance, and data processing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: General office environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sitting for extended periods of time with periodic standing and moving around.
Requires manual dexterity to operate a 10-key, mouse, multiple monitors, and computer keyboard.
Able to work effectively with managers and staff.
Sits for long periods at a time, bends, walks, or stoops intermittently.
Must be able to work on several projects simultaneously and handle frequent interruptions.
