Role Summary The Director, Financial Accounting sets the long-term strategy and oversees the financial accounting organization and the accounting close process at Alaska Air Group (AAG).
As a people leader, this role establishes strategic goals and direction for a team of leaders and individual contributors to influence company accounting initiatives across multiple divisions.
Key Duties Establishes strategic goals and direction for team of financial accounting leaders and individual contributors who deliver Air Group’s monthly close, consolidation and internal reporting process.
Leads the monthly accounting close process in a hands-on and visible way, through close collaboration with other finance leaders, overseeing the financial accounting team in resolving emergent issues, leading accounting close meetings, and fostering cross-divisional collaboration.
Manages and reviews the accurate and timely performance of month end reconciliations for the general accounting organization.
Drives an efficient and timely close process while ensuring financial results are prepared in accordance with U.
S.
GAAP and established accounting policies and procedures.
Oversees the consolidation of all financial data necessary for accurate business unit and consolidated results.
Leverages technical accounting knowledge to assess and account for unusual, infrequent and/or complex transactions.
Supports the overall relationship with AAG’s external auditors, ensuring AAG provides necessary information and resolves conflicts and questions as they arise.
Transformation & Process Enhancements Optimizes the use of tools and accounting-related systems to leverage automation, create efficiencies and improve the company’s close process.
Improves upon the use of monitoring, analytics and metrics to measure the health of accounting close and related processes.
Drives process improvement mindset across the accounting team, leveraging project management and change management skills to deliver results.
Direct and Manage Performance Manage a team of direct and indirect reports, with performance management and development responsibilities.
Foster collaboration, transparency and a results-oriented mindset amongst a wide group of finance stakeholders.
Attracts, motivates, develops, and retains a high-performing team to continually improve the accounting function.
Promotes a high-performance culture by cultivating and motivating direct/indirect reports through coaching, mentoring, and by providing regular and meaningful feedback.
Forges strong relationships and communicates / consults with a range of stakeholders, including senior management, business development, systems engineering, and external industry groups to define and achieve objectives.
Models and encourages open, honest, and direct communications and encourages open debate to get to optimal solutions.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills Required 8 years of accounting experience within a complex business environment.
5 years of people leadership experience, with at least 2 of those years directly leading people.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
Bachelor’s degree with a focus in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related discipline, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
Broad knowledge of and experience within Finance/Accounting and Auditing, including GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley and COSO frameworks.
High energy, positive presence along with top-notch written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organization, project management, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a rapidly changing, collaborative environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.
g.
, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Minimum age of 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.
S.
Preferred Experience with accounting and finance process transformation and system implementations.
Experience building and coordinating cross-functional teams.

Mix of experience in public accounting and in-house accounting/finance.

Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, your relevant experience/level, experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees.
