Starbucks is seeking a highly skilled and motivated senior accountant to join the Manufacturing accounting team.
As a senior accountant, you will contribute to Starbucks success by supporting Manufacturing accounting relating to annual standards cost setting, Material Usage Variance reporting, COGS/revenue reconciliation, and inventory subledger reconciliations.
This individual contributor will ensure the effective accounting and management of Manufacturing financials, while also acting as a standards cost accounting subject matter expert who is able to influence cross-functional teams between accounting, finance, operations, and technology.
This job contributes to Starbucks success by performing complex accounting functions, ensuring data integrity and accuracy, ensuring a timely and accurate month end close, and modeling behavior in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following: • Maintains and develops various accounting systems and processes, recommends and implements ideas and innovations to improve upon existing systems, work processes and procedures affecting month-end and quarter-end financial close, account analysis preparation and financial reporting • Actively engages in cross-functional settings to represent the team • Assists manager with training of less experienced accountants and facilitates cross-training among the team • Assists in prioritizing work and coordination of special projects or audits, informs and advises management on issues, seeking assistance to escalate issues as appropriate • Prepares and distributes financial reports, interprets data for business partners, and supports them on ad-hoc and special projects • Sets up and maintains accounting and fiscal control records, prepares and reviews journal entries that are accurate and compliant with company policies and applicable accounting regulations, reconciles accounts and reviews account reconciliations prepared by others, creates and maintains work paper documentation • Research new or existing accounting guidance for business transactions, summarize and recommend appropriate accounting approach to management • Implements new accounting policies and processes to meet changing requirements and support new business initiatives Basic Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or equivalent work experience • 4+ years of relevant experience: • Performing complex accounting activities in a high growth environment at a large, multi-national, public company • Developing, interpreting, and implementing accounting policies and processes in a high growth environment, while ensuring strong internal control environment • Applying US GAAP to complex business transactions Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Ability to assess business processes and implement improvements and controls • Working knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls • Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or other ERP) preferred • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate accounting results to both accounting and non-accounting customers at various levels of the organization.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills • Ability to build relationships and influence others to achieve successful outcome in cross-functional projects and activities • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment, while exhibiting exceptional attention to detail and continuously driving process improvements.
• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word.
• Experience with business intelligence and reporting tools.
• Ability to work independently.
• Displays initiative and can improve processes and document work performed.
