As a member of the Electrical Engineering team in Metro's Capital Delivery Section, the Transit Electrical Engineer IV’s will perform advanced level engineering for both major and smaller Transit facility capital projects, including the preparation of engineering designs, specifications and design reports.
These positions will be responsible for assisting managers with the establishment of project budgets and schedules, and the performance of quality control reviews of consultant designs.
Additionally, these positions will provide support to Transit Planners in development of integrated multi-modal transportation facilities.

Position information: This recruitment will be used to hire 1 Career Service Transit Electrical Engineer IV vacancy.
It will also create an eligibility pool to fill future Career Service, Special Duty Assignment/Term-Limited Temporary vacancies that may become open for this classification.
The pool will be valid for 12 months upon creation and may be used at the discretion of the hiring manager(s) until exhausted or until all candidates are placed.

As an Electrical Engineer (Transit Engineer IV), you will: Perform electrical engineering functions related to basic power, traction power and electrical control systems Stamp and signoff electrical engineering design drawings as a Professional Engineer Prepare Alternatives Analysis reports for electrical engineering projects Review consultant Alternatives Analysis reports, designs, specifications and cost estimates for electrical engineering projects Prepare designs and perform electrical engineering calculations for: Metro Transit facilities including wiring, lighting and control systems; Overhead trolley systems including substations, 700 volt DC traction power and relay circuits; SCADA systems including PLC’s; and Outdoor lighting systems.
Assist Transit Security Teams with the proposals and implementation of security measures Assist project managers with the preparation and monitoring of project budgets and schedules Assist field inspectors with the review and approval of shop drawings and interpretation of specifications Provide technical assistance to maintenance personnel as requested Demonstrate a commitment to equity and sustainability.
Promote an equitable, diverse and inclusive work environment and support diversity and inclusion goals Perform other duties as assigned Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering and registration as a Professional Electrical Engineer in the State of Washington, or registration in another state, with the ability to obtain via comity within 6-months of date of hire OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, with the required registration, that provides evidence of full ability to perform the duties of the position.
Additional Requirements: Experience working as an Electrical Engineer Experience in either industrial electrical power systems or in electrical overhead systems Experience in medium voltage power systems 35kV and below Knowledge of pertinent laws, codes and regulations Demonstrated analytical capabilities and sound engineering judgement Ability to be innovative and make independent decisions Knowledge of the following systems and codes as required for electrical work: Electrical control systems (lighting and motor), National Electric Code, Washington Administrative Code and IEEE standards, Electrical power systems, and Industrial, commercial and outdoor lighting systems.
Successful implementation of energy conservation measures.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and successfully with a diverse group of individuals from a variety of different positions and backgrounds Excellent communication and writing skills Valid Washington State driver’s license, or the ability to obtain at start of employment Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of DC traction power Knowledge of electrical overhead trolley systems Knowledge of Battery Charging systems for Battery Electric Buses (BEB) Knowledge of PLC based control systems Knowledge of SCADA Knowledge of security systems Computer skills in project scheduling and spreadsheets Working knowledge of software packages including SKM, AGI32 and Revit Supplemental Information Forbes named King County as one of Washington State's best employers.

Work Schedule: The position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not overtime eligible.
The standard work week is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday within the 8:00 a.
m.
– 5:00 p.
m.
timeframe; however, alternative work schedules will be considered.
Occasional work may be required during evenings and weekends.
Teleworking Requirement The work associated with this position will be performed predominantly by teleworking, complemented by onsite work and meetings as needed.
Work is currently being conducted in a hybrid work from home /in-office environment and is subject to change.
Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities.
Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Some field work or work at base locations may be required.
