The Opportunity WSDOT is currently seeking a Work Zone Traffic Engineer (Transportation Engineer 3) to play a crucial role in ensuring safe and efficient transportation options in Washington State.

What to Expect Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Work Zone Traffic Engineer will: Conduct field reviews and recommend appropriate traffic control measures during project construction.
Operate state-owned motor vehicles to evaluate project traffic control setups in the field.
Independently provide technical expertise and guidance on traffic control strategies.
Ensure project traffic control adheres to agency policies, MUTCD standards, and engineering principles.
Analyze and evaluate proposals for traffic control revisions and detours.
Coordinate closures effectively with other projects and local agencies to avoid conflicts.
Thoroughly analyze and evaluate submitted traffic control plans, detours, and staging plans.
Provide guidance to design engineers to develop traffic control plans meeting agency requirements.
Analyze roadway capacity and develop closure restrictions for holidays and special events.
Represent the Construction Traffic Office in meetings and provide input on traffic strategies and plans.
Qualifications To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required: Two (2) years of experience as a Transportation Engineer 2 or equivalent with a diverse background in roadway construction, highway design, traffic control, or traffic analysis (To be considered for the role, you must have at least two of the four specified backgrounds as part of your experience.
) In addition to: Ability to navigate steep and/or uneven terrain.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have the following: Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
Engineering-In-Training (EIT) Certification Traffic Control Supervisor Training/Certification Flagger Training/Certification One (1) year of experience reviewing and/or designing traffic control plans or implementing traffic control in the field or a combination of the two.
Intermediate skill level in using Microsoft programs such as Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Intermediate skill level in using Adobe Acrobat Work cooperatively as a member of a team and be able to interact in a professional and courteous manner with the public.
Operate a Class 1 (sedan or light-duty van) and Class 5 (light-duty pick-up truck) vehicle legally and safely.
Ability to drive urban and rural highways and work in inclement weather to conduct field reviews.
Important Notes This recruitment may also be used to fill additional positions per business needs.
This position offers flexible/hybrid remote work options.
The salary listed includes the legislative-approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
The position may occasionally require extended hours.
