40 Mason and/or Leaf Cutter Bees of which are still in cocoons for $30.
00.
A block with 28 unoccupied holes for this year's nesting is included.
Up to 6 eggs can be inside each hole for next year.
The holes are 3 inches deep.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's springtime which means it's pollination time! One of natures most effective pollinators is the Mason and Leaf Cutter Bees, which is just beginning to emerge from their winter homes.
Mason and Leaf Cutter bees are great pollinators and are particularly useful for early spring fruit flowers.
--> General Information about Mason and Leaf Cutter Bees: Mason and the Leaf Cutter Bees are about the size of a large fly, and since they have no honey to defend, will only sting when squeezed or stepped on (but hey, wouldn't you sting if you were stepped on too).
They start hatching around late March then pollinate for a 6-8 week season.
The life of a bee is about 4-6 weeks.
The bees gather pollen, bring it back to their nest and stick it to the wall of the nest.
Then they lay an egg, cement the hole shut and repeat the process explaining their Mason namesake.
These type of Bees pollinate plants about eight to ten times more than any other bee.
Each 3-inch-deep hole of the nesting blocks can have up to 6 eggs.
The first 2 eggs, from the outside into the hole, are males and the remaining eggs are females.
This is natures way of protecting the species, if a bird or predator gets to the first few eggs, the remaining will still survive.
The males are the first to hatch and the females start hatching about a week later.
The next generation of these Bees won't come out until next spring.
A new home has to be furnished for this year's nesting cycle in order for a batch to be available next spring.
Each 3-inch-deep hole of the nesting blocks can have up to 6 eggs for next years population.
I live in the Kirkland, Washington area.
