As an Opto-Mechanical Engineer at Meta, you will take a critical role in developing next generation AR systems.
You will become part of a team translating new concepts through mechanical design and fast iterative prototyping into products.
A wide range of approaches will be explored combining electrical, mechanical, optical, firmware, and software techniques.
We want people who work well in teams, can brainstorm big ideas, work in new technology areas, are able to drive a concept into a prototype and then mature the design to high-volume consumer product solutions.
We are looking for someone with a product mindset to join the display systems integration team.
The candidate will be responsible for developing new innovative manufacturing process technologies and equipment systems to solve complex design challenges that have direct impact on future AR products at Meta.
This will be a technical lead role where the individual in this role will work closely with product design engineers, display engineers, hardware engineers, process engineers, FEA simulation engineers, material scientists, project managers, validation engineers, product-operations, and international suppliers to develop methods / stations / tools to support display module assembly and calibration from the concept/architecture definition stage through product engineering validation builds.
We work at a fast pace with a group of highly self-motivated talents.
The individual should demonstrate strong ability to continuously develop personal knowledge and expertise in new technology for AR display systems assembly, process design, manufacturing, and scalability.
Opto-Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities: Drive end-to-end discussions on system assembly process down-selection, prototyping, equipment & tooling needs for high precision assembly meeting mechanical, optical and reliability requirements Drive design and DFM reviews of display systems integration, such as high precision alignment approaches, product interface features for integration process, and critical product interface that drives integration performance, etc.
Drive FMEA, failure analysis, tolerance analysis, gauge R&R, and the GD&T activities supporting product scalability Support process validation studies and proof-of-concept display system builds Design and drive tooling DOEs to support development of equipment architecture feasibility, tool iterations, reliability Work closely with external equipment manufacturers, part suppliers, integrators to support technology deployment and product development Design systems for automation integration & high-volume production environments Apply engineering knowhow in the areas of optics, precision mechanism design & motion control Drive vendors and CMs to provide data analysis and reports of tool performance Drive in-field failure analysis of performance gap of equipments Document best practices, SOPs, and cost models by working closely with various cross functional teams Minimum Qualifications: Optomechanical background with proven working knowledge of high precision alignment process development of optical imaging, display or sensing assemblies, as well as prototyping skills, 3D CAD, experience designing and manufacturing consumer technology products Knowledge of designing for low particle environments/cleanrooms BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience 5+ years of experience designing and deploying high precision assembly tools and processes for optical/imaging devices Experience in design of high precision alignment mechanisms, motion control systems, automated dispensing Experience with mechanical and optics metrology devices such as CMM, OMM, interferometry Experience working with international equipment vendors and international contract manufacturers Knowledge of component/module mounting, interfaces, and adhesive bonding Knowledge of structural and stress analysis and FEA Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of image processing and optical-display metrics, such as MTF, contrast, luminance, uniformity etc.
