Client is currently seeking a TPM on the Optics and Display Research team who will work with a world-class group of researchers and engineers.
This is a full-time position and requires a degree in optics/display, optical/electrical engineering, systems HW engineering, physics, or similar.
Successful candidates must be familiar with imaging system hardware and software and relatively versed in VR or AR display technology trends.
Client is also looking for a candidate who is resilient in pursuing solutions to hard and complex problems.
Candidate will establish requirements with internal and external customers, manage program schedules, identify risks and associated mitigation plans, and clearly communicate to program stakeholders.
Candidate look for technical program managers who have a strong technical foundation and are natural motivators, cross-functional relationship builders, and champions for driving the right level of process to ensure smooth and predictable program execution in a fast-paced innovative environment.
Responsibilities: Work with research, engineering, and business teams to define roadmaps, program milestones and deliverables.
Develop and maintain an overall program schedule based on feedback from multiple work streams such as requirements, technical challenges, available resources, and business needs.
Identify resources needed and work closely with the team leads to maintain full visibility of multiple projects, ensuring resource gaps are addressed efficiently.
Proactively identify technical, legal, procedural, logistical, and communication issues and drive creative solutions to fix them and manage both technical and programmatic risks.
Work cross-functionally to develop best practices and research development processes in a quickly-changing and dynamic environment.
Engage with cross-functional and external teams to identify constraints, dependencies, and risks/issues.
Coordinate communication between internal and external teams and partners.
Report program status, issues, challenges and help needed with all stakeholders.
Building teams, development processes, best practices, and supporting tools to support a growing organization.
Flexibility across time zones to take calls.
Minimum Qualifications: BS in Display, Systems Engineering, Imaging Science, Electronics, Optics, or Physics and 5 plus years of experience as a Technical Program Manager.
Experience with driving programs in a research environment.
Project management, leadership, dependency management and cross-group technical collaboration experience.
Experience managing external technical engagements.
Knowledge of display and/or optics development including manufacturing processes.
Organizational experience, including managing cross-team budgets and headcount.
Systems architecture application experience in technical domains.
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, international travel possible Preferred Qualifications: Graduate degree in an engineering or scientific field related to display/optics/imaging systems.
Experience in project management on optics and display development especially in the consumer market.
Multi-team/geographically dispersed team management experience.
Track record of transitioning research or emerging technologies into consumer products.
Experience working with a cross-disciplinary team of researchers, software engineers and hardware engineers.
Top 3 must-have hard skills: Organizing and clear communication Partnering Solid technical background to understand, not an expert, but need to understand what the researchers are talking about Display and optics background Good to have skills: Optical systems background, instead of one platform technology.
LCD displays, micro OLEDs.
Optics background in material science, if it’s not optical systems, but materials focus within optics Worked with mass production partners on displays Running programs from invention through scale up Story Behind the Need – Business Group and Key Projects: On the team of peers or other technical program managers, there are 8 others on the team that are FTEs.
This CW will work very closely with 2 others, in support of the same pillar lead (technology research lead).
The three of them collectively would cover all the projects for the same pillar lead, who is mostly working on optics and display systems, mostly on displays.
They work with a variety of different programs, projects, vendors, to conduct research, and scale technologies.

Typical Day in the Role: Project management, for a technology, displays.
Setting up meetings, logistics of that, taking meeting minutes and any action items, following up on the action items.
Building communications around the program, taking the information, and building timelines, power points to communicate.
Driving prioritization in major issues.
Having clear transparent communication with their partners.
Some amount of purchasing and mechanics their allowed to do around purchasing, and negotiating, and talking to vendors.
Mechanics of getting stuff, testing it, using standard processes with butterfly forms, task system, to manage the day-to-day.
Optics and display research team is who they will spend most of their time with.
How will performance be measured: Agreed upon minimum expectations per program, will measure the outcome, clear communication is critical, flexible in accepting feedback, adjusting to the feedback.
Note: Onsite role in Redmond.
At least 10 years of experience, ideally looking for very senior folks with 15-20 years of experience.
Technical bachelor's degree is required, Master's or PhD in physics preferred.

Pay Range: $110 hourly ++ The specific compensation for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
