Summary
The Project Director, Campus Planning, Design, and Construction supports the mission of The Museum of Flight by providing leadership and direction in exploring, planning, constructing, and integrating new capital investments in the Museum campus.
This position is a critical leadership role in new construction and the transformation of existing structures of the Museum.
In partnership with the executive team, the Project Director monitors specific Museum capital expenditures and represents the Museum in all planning, design, and construction matters.
Working closely with Museum leaders, departments, internal and external stakeholders, architects, construction teams, community members and organizations, agency staff, and public officials, this position plays a critical role in facilitating strategic visioning, understanding and assessing campus needs born out of strategic goals, leading for inclusive design practices, distilling and defining campus requirements into project plans, development, and construction.
The Project Director is responsible for leading project teams of internal and external stakeholders to assess and review the needs of the Museum and the communities we serve and develop a master plan that includes design, integration, construction, and major renovations of physical facilities, facilities infrastructure, and real property of the Museum’s main campus and remote location(s).

Provide oversight for the development, execution, and updating of a Campus Master Plan that is aligned with the Museum’s Strategic Plan, vision for the future, and created in partnership with our community.
Through partnership with internal community engagement teams, ensure the development process includes voices of our community, changing environment, and inclusive design principles.
Collaborate with stakeholders to document project scope, deliverables, goals, risks, blockers, success measures, and estimated resources needed.
Work with project management teams to define and execute specific projects.
Working with Museum leaders from Collections, Exhibits, Marketing, Development, Education, Facilities, Finance, IT, and People & Culture, lead the development of design standards for all campus major remodel and construction projects, including strategic coordination of space allocation, space remodeling, and planning to accommodate needs.
Lead cross-departmental project teams with diverse perspectives, skills, and resources Ensure that projects remain in-scope and meet budgetary, scheduling, and quality requirements.
Ensure the creation, management, and appropriate distribution of project documents, charters, schedules, budgets, and communication.
Working with project management teams, provide project status updates at predetermined time intervals to all stakeholders.
Communicate routinely to management, project team members, and other stakeholders, actively soliciting and addressing project team feedback.
Assist in business development efforts to create project proposals, RFPs, estimates, and schedules.
Set and monitor project budgets and staffing requirements.
Ensure adherence to legally binding requirements.
Plan, schedule, monitor, and reports on activities related to the project, including subcontractor monitoring Establish key project criteria metrics.
Develop project control and reporting procedures and manage changes in operational plan Plan and lead status review meetings, which may include internal team members, vendors, and customers.
Other duties as assigned Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education in architecture, construction management, engineering, or relevant field.
A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Ten (10) years’ industry experience including campus planning, project management, interaction with construction firms, general contractors, architects, and city and state regulators.
Experience in and passion for developing “next-generation” projects, highly preferred.
Ten (10) years’ experience with contract negotiations and budgeting complex operating and capital investment.
Five (5) years’ experience leading diverse, cross-departmental teams.
Five (5) years of supervisory experience, preferred.
Experience in a visitor-centered institution required; experience in a museum or art and culture institution, preferred.
Experience in energy efficient design and construction, preferred.
Experience working with Museum collections staff, cultural exhibits, or facilities focused on youth programs or infotainment, preferred.
Knowledge Deep knowledge of Project Management principles and frameworks.
Strong grasp of current communication, project tracking, budget management technologies.
Knowledge and understanding of complex office, commercial, or campus planning required.
Knowledge of unique requirements of museum, cultural attraction, amusement park, university campus, or other like institution, preferred.
High level working knowledge of construction project management.
Knowledge of how to use and navigate goals, objectives, structure, and operations of a large institution.
Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures for a complex organization.
Working knowledge and application of facility safety standards and airport operations regulations, preferred.
